The recent Africa Growth workshop, hosted at our head office as part of msi_greatlakes phase 2 and led by our Executive Director Ndahiro Derrick Alter , gathered dedicated individuals to advance the Free and Open Knowledge Movement. ![]()
The event explored the Wikimedia Movement’s goals: collaboration, accessibility, multilingualism, and neutrality—along with Wikimedia Foundation’s structure, the role of affiliates, and the critical contribution of #volunteers. ![]()
Discussions also covered multiple ways to contribute to the Wikimedia Movement beyond editing wikipedia, such as organizing events, training others, or contributing to projects like wikicommons and wikidata.id
Emphasis was placed on retaining #volunteers and fostering community, highlighting that engagement outweighs mere numbers. ![]()
The workshop underscored knowledge as a freely accessible public good and envisioned a future where Rwandans can explore their history, science, and culture in Kinyarwanda and beyond. ![]()
Participants were encouraged to contribute through editing, mentoring, or sharing knowledge, reinforcing that every step forward strengthens Rwanda’s presence in the global knowledge landscape. Excitement grows for the next steps in this journey. #OpenKnowledge
